Collective Souls Holding Space (CSHS) is a grassroots, trauma-informed 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Albany, New York. Founded on June 16, 2021—during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—CSHS emerged in direct response to escalating community violence, compounded trauma, social isolation, and longstanding gaps in systems of care. Founded by Carrie Love (known throughout the community simply as “Love”), CSHS is rooted in the belief that our communities need more love, dignity, resources, and genuine connection. Ms. Love legally changed her last name to Love as a reflection of this belief and her commitment to living it out in service to others. The mission of CSHS is to empower individuals and communities through trauma-informed wellness, violence prevention, education, and collective care—creating safer, more connected communities. Our work is grounded in the belief that healed people heal people, and that sustainable safety is built through connection, dignity, and shared responsibility. Why We Exist Albany and surrounding communities face ongoing challenges related to community and gun violence, trauma and grief, mental health and substance use, incarceration and reentry, housing instability, and economic insecurity. Traditional systems often struggle to reach those most impacted due to mistrust, access barriers, and delayed responses. CSHS fills a critical gap by providing real-time, relationship-based support that remains present beyond moments of crisis. Our Guiding Philosophy: Ubuntu CSHS moves with an Ubuntu philosophy—“I am because we are.” Rather than attempting to fix individuals or communities, we engage people as partners, building skills, strengthening relationships, and honoring the interconnectedness of our collective wellbeing. Ubuntu calls us to compassion, accountability, and care for one another—especially those most vulnerable. Who We Serve CSHS serves individuals and families impacted by: Community and gun violence Trauma, grief, and loss Mental health and substance use challenges Incarceration and reentry Housing instability and economic insecurity We prioritize populations most often underserved, including youth, families, justice-involved individuals, and frontline/public safety workers. Collective Souls Holding Space exists because our communities deserve care, dignity, and safety rooted in love, accountability, and collective responsibility. We remain committed to evolving alongside our community and strengthening partnerships that support healing and prevention. Thank you for being part of this community.
